Theater Schmeater to Present WELCOME TO MY SECRET LAIR
Theater Schmeater celebrates Halloween with a workshop production of Courtney Kessler's new play, Welcome to My Secret Lair. In a secluded castle, a socially deficient mad scientist searches for true love, aided by his able assistant and the ease of online dating. But his simple quest for a perfect partner to share the end of the world with keeps running aground on the rocky shores of modern life, as he discovers that online personas seldom match the complexities of real people.
Expanded from a one act originally presented in Theater Schmeater's 2014's Quick and Dirty Playreading Festival, Ms. Kessler's play reveals the hilarious intricacies of modern dating through the socially awkward but honest eyes of Victor, a deranged mad scientist. Aided by his rather more socially adept assistant, Scarface, Victor encounters dating horrors more terrifying than any of his multiple deranged laboratory experiments, leading to his most terrifying discovery: love ain't easy.
Theater Schmeater has assembled an expert cast for Welcome to My Secret Lair: Annelih Hamilton, Britt Hobson, Parker Mathews, Catlin McCown, Natalie Moe, Jennifer Ruzmuna, Adam St John, Tom Stewart and Asha Stitcher. The production is stage managed by Mathew Ray and directed by Grant Scott.
