Seattle Public Theater (SPT) cautiously welcomes back the horrible Herdman Family for another assault on our seasonal sensibilities in The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, running December 7th to 24th, 2012 at the historic Bathhouse Theater on Green Lake.

To everyone’s shock and awe, the Herdman kids hijack the annual church Christmas Pageant. Chaos escalates as the kids turn the festivities upside down and ultimately challenges everyone’s traditional notions of Christmas. For young and old alike, The Best Christmas Pageant Ever has become a holiday family tradition at SPT and not to be missed.

“What keeps the Herdmans scary is seeing them from a child’s point of view,” says Artistic Director, Shana Bestock. “These are kids without parents, without structure, without rules – and above all, without a story. There is no hot soup for colds, no band-aids for owies, no words of praise in the Herdman universe. Their hunger for the Christmas Pageant is terrifying, because they need the pageant more than any other kid in the room has needed anything.”

This year’s cast features Brandon Felker (Unexpected Productions), Caitlin Frances (The Odd Couple, Village Theatre), Claudine Nako (Big River, Village Theatre), Heather Ward, and Chelsea LeValley, along with local young talents Anna Marie Yanny, Gabe Airth, Walker Caplan, Spencer Bradley, Sofia Truzzi, Charlie Tadlock, Riley Smith, Oscar Loveless, Anna Klein, Noah Rose Ledesma, Samuel Trott, Zoe Poole, Izabel Mar, Julia Schoemig, Kayla Brooks and Aliza Cosgrove as the infamous Gladys Herdman.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever performances run December 7th to 24th, 2012. Tickets may be purchased by phone at (206) 524-1300 or online at www.seattlepublictheater.org.

If you prefer your holiday punch spiked with a pinch of the sardonic and several drams of wit, consider adding to your wish list tickets to David Sedaris’ The Santaland Diaries starring Patrick Lennon and directed by SPT Artistic Associate Kelly Kitchens. Sedaris’ acerbic diary of his interment as a Macy’s elf returns December 7th to 24th and is not appropriate for younger elves.

Seattle Public Theater (SPT) is a mid-size, 501 (c) (3) non-profit professional theater on the shores of Green Lake. Specializing in main stage theater and youth theater education, SPT is dedicated to creating community through the performing arts.
