Seattle Playwrights Salon presents a staged reading of Chimerica by Christopher Bailey on Friday June 9th at 7 p.m. at the Conservatory, 5813 Airport Way South, Seattle 98108. Admission is free! Beer, wine, cider, and food available for purchase before and after the show, and during intermission.

Kareem, a black male soldier between tours in the Middle East, goes downstream in the deep south to visit Dale, the racist white father of a friend and fellow soldier killed in the line of duty. Who happens to have been a woman.

It's not long before the niceties between them break down and unhealed wounds that date back to slavery and Jim Crow explode. Dale's Cambodian-American daughter-in-law, Nikki, marginalized by the two alpha males, fights back against both.

Chimerica stars Trey Calhoun as Kareem, Stephanie Sola as Nikki, and John Lowrie as Dale. Directed by Carissa Meisner Smit.

The Conservatory is a Seattle art space and coffeehouse, community meeting place, and artists' workshop in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood, a growing and glowing arts haven in Seattle near I-5, just north of Boeing Field. The Seattle Playwrights Salon produces new play readings and full productions on the second Friday of every month at The Conservatory to give local playwrights a public place to present new work in development to a live audience.
