Seattle Center Festál Spotlights Traditional And Contemporary Indigenous Cultures

Celebrate indigenous cultures and Native peoples' rich history in the Pacific Northwest at Seattle Center Festál. Join us for Seattle Center Festál: Indigenous People Festival at 11:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 8 at Seattle Center Armory.

Indigenous People Festival provides an opportunity for Native people to celebrate their traditions and for visitors to learn more about indigenous cultures through song, dance, performances, art, food, and the sharing of indigenous knowledge.

Indigenous People Festival is coordinated by Seattle Indian Health Board in collaboration with many Native community groups and individuals in the greater Seattle area, bringing together an intertribal showcase of the cultures and traditions of American Indian and Alaska Native people.

For event details and future updates, visit Seattle Indian Health Board's website.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops, view traditional food and beading demonstrations, win door prizes, and purchase authentic Native artwork from numerous artists from various indigenous backgrounds.

Visitors will also be able to enjoy traditional and contemporary performances. This year's performers will consist of an award-winning indigenous singer/songwriter, comedians, rock bands, poets and storytellers, and a 30-person drum and dance group, among many others.

Performances will be held in the Seattle Center Armory and on the Mural Amphitheater stage.

Seattle Center Festál highlights the culturally rich communities who shape the character of our region. Although the series began in 1997, the festivals took place earlier in their own ethnic communities. Now, Seattle Center serves as a central place, where festivals invite the public to join in their unique cultural expression. This year's theme, "Love, Peace and Understanding," is woven throughout 24 free, ethnic cultural festivals. In a time of divisive national rhetoric, Festál celebrates our shared humanity to build connections, tear down stereotypes and create trust.

Seattle Center Festál is a public program presented by Seattle Center in partnership with the Seattle Indian Health Board. Admission is free-of-charge. For more information on this festival, visit https://www.sihb.org/events/indigenous-people-festival-2019/ and to learn more about this collection of ethnic cultural events and other Seattle Center public programming, visit www.seattlecenter.com or call 206-684-7200.

This illuminating series of 24 ethnic cultural festivals on weekends throughout the year seeks to connect people in ways that build understanding, dispel stereotypes and generate pride among the generations who participate in these shared experiences. Seattle Center Festál is produced with the generous support of KUOW 94.9 Public Radio, Coca-Cola, Alaska Airlines, T-Mobile, Lyft, 4Culture, the City of Seattle and Seattle Center Foundation.
