Seattle Center Announces Teeny Awards, 7/7

By:

Seattle Center Teen Tix will reveal its favorite local arts organizations and programs on July 7, 2010 with the Teeny Awards. Now in their second year, the awards aim to empower young audiences, honor youth-friendly programming choices and acknowledge organizations where young audience members feel particularly valued and welcomed.

The Teen Tix Teen Steering Committee determines the awards based on voting by Teen Tix members. Members, who range in age from 13 to 19 years old, vote for their favorite organizations and programs in 20 categories, including:

* Best Date Venue
* Best Box Office Experience
* Best Film
* Best Music Performance
* Best Play or Musical
* Best Art Exhibit
* Best Dance Performance
* Best "Other" Event
* Favorite Organization Overall

Seattle Center Teen Tix, an arts access program for teenagers, partners with local arts organizations to make it possible for its members to purchase $5.00 day-of admissions. Now in its sixth year of operation, Teen Tix provides Seattle area teenagers with access to 37 arts organizations, including Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle Opera, Seattle Art Museum, EMP|SFM, On the Boards, ACT Theatre, Bellevue Arts Museum and Seattle International Film Festival. In 2009, nearly 5,000 teenagers used Teen Tix to access the arts.

The Teeny Awards are just one part of Teen Tix's strategy to engage young people in Seattle's vibrant cultural scene. The list of this year's awardees includes some of the Seattle area's most venerable large arts organizations, as well as severAl Smaller professional arts groups. The complete list of awards and winners will be revealed on the Teen Tix blog (teentix.blogspot.com) on July 7, 2010.
