Seattle Center Announces 'Fountain of Light' Series in August

By:

International Fountain at Seattle Center "takes on new dimensions as the sun sets on the first two weekends in August. The fountain's super shooting water sprays transform into sheets of mist to reveal brilliant movement and sound. The Fountain of Light series, a new venture for Seattle Center, re-imagines International Fountain, projecting video and film onto the fountain water, accompanied by music – all free to the public. Fridays feature short films and Saturdays bring in local artists to provide music and video content, add a beer garden and turn the fountain area into a dance party."

Fountain of Light line-up:

Fridays, Aug. 3 and 10, 9:30 p.m.  Galaxy Grrrls Defy Gravity, short films by Alicia Berger featuring choreography by Tonya Lockyer, Alia Swersky and Leslie Rosen.  In Galaxy Grrrls, Berger records synchronized swimming choreography against a green screen, so that when played on the fountain, it appears that the dancers are swimming in the water.

Saturdays, Aug 4 and 11, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m.  Plunge! Music and video projection on the International Fountain water and beer garden for 21 and older.  Aug. 4, 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., music by DJ Freddy King of Pants; 9 p.m. – 11p.m., found video Mash-Up by Collide-O-Scope. Aug. 11, 7 p.m. – 11 p.m., Mash-up Dance Party with DJ Freddy King of Pants and original video by Collide-O-Scope.  Freddy Molitch, aka DJ Freddy King of Pants, the master of music mash-ups, has earned a strong national following by taking songs from different eras and styles and blending them together.  Collide-O-Scope members Shane Wahlund and Michael Anderson are best known for the videos they create for Seattle's drag treasure, Dina Martina.

The evening of Aug. 3 also marks the start of the 2012 KEXP & Seattle Center Present Concerts at the Mural, 5:30 p.m. at Mural Amphitheatre, free admission. Visitors are also invited to a special preview of new eateries at Seattle Center Armory, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., with special food offers and harmony-rich folk rock tunes by River Giant, 4 p.m. – 5 p.m., on Seattle Center Armory Stage.

Support for Fountain of Light is provided by Coca-Cola, T-Mobile, Seattle Center Foundation and the City of Seattle. For more information on the series and other outstanding pubic programming offered by Seattle Center, visit www.seattlecenter.com or call 206 684-7200.
