Sandbox One-Act Play Festival Set for This Summer
Members of The Sandbox Artists Collective will present the Sandbox One-Act Play Festival (aka SOAP Fest), premiering new works by some of Seattle's most provocative playwrights. Innovative and inspiring, each piece is a fully realized story of approximately 20-30 minutes and packed with dramatic intensity.
For well over a year, audiences in and beyond Seattle have enjoyed performances of Sandbox Radio Live! How about a lineup of four fresh, new works all in one scintillating evening?
Printer's Devil favorite and member of Seattle Rep's Writers Group, Scot Augustson's Milwaukee focuses on an aging mother and her struggle to communicate with her two grown sons. Directed by Julie Beckman, Augustson's signature mix of humor and pathos is at its finest. In ...dispose of me..., by inaugural winner of ACT's New Play Award and Seattle Rep veteran Elizabeth Heffron, a young woman and a former step-father figure are reunited after the death of her mother. Under the direction of Gregory Award winner Carol Roscoe, the characters try to redefine their relationship in the midst of a life-changing event. Openly We Carry, by Stranger Genius Award winner Paul Mullin and directed by Book-It's Annie Lareau, is an allegorical tale about an openly carrying gun community and the rise of a comely female prophet. And a surreal transformation occurs in Sloan grant recipient Emily Conbere's The Sight of the White Ibis. What happens when a professional couple leaves the city and desperately attempts to cut ties with the outside world? Directed by Andrew McGinn, theatregoers will surely fall under its spell.
Inspired by Ensemble Studio Theatre's Marathon of One-Act Plays (Mullin, Conbere, and co-coordinator Amy Love are from its ranks), Sandbox's award-winning playwrights, directors, actors, and designers come together for an evening you won't want to miss.
