Printer's Devil Theater Presents I CAN HEAR YOU...BUT I'M NOT LISTENING, 7/27 & 28

"In 1982, a young Jennifer Jasper gave stand-up comedy a try. Her father was in the audience and afterward came up and said, 'So…you're really funny. You are. But … you're not really gonna do stand-up, right?'  At that moment Jennifer realized a couple things. First, that a Komedy Klub in Albuquerque, NM was just the sort of depressing place where somehow it seemed natural that a father might say that to his kid. And second, if her family wasn't going to follow her career, that pretty much freed her up to talk about them.

Printer's Devil Theater presents a night of storytelling and yes, stand-up comedy with Jennifer Jasper in I Can Hear You ... But I'm Not Listening.

Here she is 30 years later to explore her family's influence on her life choices. (Some smart choices, some, well, maybe not so smart.) Her colorful (and off-color) unscripted stories reveal her gift for merging the light with the dark.

Jasper crafted this evening of stories with the guidance of director, Stephen Hando. The pair previously collaborated on Hando's one-person show, "Keefee's House of Cards."

Jennifer Jasper has been a fixture of the Northwest theater scene for more than two decades, known for acting, directing, and emceeing. She co-founded Kings' Elephant Theatre (original long form improvisational pieces and scripted plays) and Vixen Productions (Pulp Vixens, A Fistful of Lesbians). Known for her character work, she is a frequent hostess and emcee as the scotch-swilling, hard-living "Maggie." Jennifer's autobiographical show Middle was featured at the Seattle Solo Performance Festival at Theatre Off Jackson in 2010. Her most recent directing endeavors include Sgt. Rigsby and His Amazing Silhouettes in Shadow Odyssey and Teensploitation by Scot Augustson, and Keefee's House of Cards, written by Stephen Hando, who played the leading role.
