Ovation! 's Kander and Ebb Classic CABARET Ends Run
By: Lauren Wolman
Ovation! Musical Theatre Bainbridge is proud to present the Tony Award winning musical CABARET this summer on Bainbridge Island.
Set in 1930 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, CABARET focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around young English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. A sub-plot involves the doomed romance between German boarding house owner Fräulein Schneider and her suitor Herr Schultz, a Jewish fruit vendor. Overseeing the action is the Master of Ceremonies at the Kit Kat Klub which serves as a constant metaphor for the tenuous and threatening state of affairs in Germany throughout the show.Over the course of its Broadway premiere in 1966 and two subsequent revivals, CABARET has won 12 Tony Awards and three Drama Desk awards. In 1972 it was made into the Oscar winning movie of the same name.
