Jherek Bischoff Will Headline Seattle's Moore Theatre, 12/1

By:

Seattle-based songwriter, producer, musician, and composer Jherek Bischoff will headline Seattle's Moore Theatre on December 1st, performing songs from his critically acclaimed album Composed with help from a full orchestra and a slew of just-announced special guest singers: Zola Jesus, Mirah, Zac Pennington (Parenthetical Girls), Soko, Jason Webley and Tomo Nakayama. This is his first Seattle-area headlining show since the release of the album in June.

Called a "pop polymath" (The New York Times), a "Seattle phenom" (The New Yorker), and "the missing link between the sombre undertones of Ennio Morricone and the unpredictability of John Cale" (NME), Jherek Bischoff has played in numerous bands and musical configurations, including Parenthetical Girls, Xiu Xiu, The Degenerate Art Ensemble, The Dead Science, Amanda "F*cking" Palmer, and the Wordless Music Orchestra.

Bischoff's recent solo album Composed is a meticulously arranged, multi-tracked orchestral pop album featuring luminaries such as David Byrne, Caetano Veloso, Wilco's Nels Cline, Craig Wedren, Deerhoof's Greg Saunier, Parenthetical Girls' Zac Pennington and many more.

Lacking the budget usually required for hiring and recording an orchestra, Jherek took a purely DIY approach to creating the album:

"I recorded each individual musician of the 'orchestra' in their own living rooms," says Bischoff, "and then I layered each instrument -- sometimes one violinist playing one part twenty times - until it was the size of a huge orchestra. I spent the summer riding my bike from house to house recording each musician. I finished the album by taking a road trip to record all the singers in person, except for Caetano Veloso and David Byrne, who recorded their own parts at home."

Since its release, Jherek has been touring the world as Amanda Palmer's opening act and part of her Grand Theft Orchestra, and plays on her new album, Theatre Is Evil.
