Albatross Theatre Lab Presents SAGITTARIUS PONDEROSA
Albatross Theatre Lab is thrilled to announce its 2019 mainstage production, Sagittarius Ponderosa by MJ Kaufman, performing at Theatre Puget Sound (TPS)'s Theatre4 on the Seattle Center campus from October 11-14 & 17-19, 2019. Sagittarius Ponderosa was one of the plays featured in Albatross's inaugural Play Reading Series in December 2018, and audience members' reactions were memorably powerful. The show is one that beautifully reflects Albatross's mission-driven work in a number of ways. "Sagittarius Ponderosa is a play that showcases inter-generational talent. We are working with artists who are active in the community, artists who haven't worked in years and want to jump back in, and artists who find themselves at the fringes of our dramatic community all coming together to tell a story that features characters that aren't often brought to life on stage," says director Xandria Nirvana Easterday Callahan (they/them). "It shows a very humanized slice of queer life. In a world of 'RuPaul's Drag Race' and rainbow pride parades, Sagittarius Ponderosa is a quiet, introverted story of family that happens to feature a trans man. The play shows us that magical realism is as real as the trees around us, and that we all find ways to learn to live amongst our loved ones as our true selves."
Sagittarius Ponderosa is directed by Xandria Nirvana Easterday Callahan (they/them), and features Jasmine Joshua (they/them), Brian Lomatewama (he/him), Tom Fraser (he/him), Tami Kowal (she/her), and Wendy Woolery (she/her).
The creative team for the production includes Annika Bennett (assistant director, she/her), Jenny Burkey (set designer, she/her), Anna Bowen (costume designer, she/her), McKayla Bower (sound designer, she/her), Caitlyn Davis (props designer, she/her), and Lyssa Featherstone (stage manager, she/her).
