THE BODY I LEFT IN SUSQUEHANNA NATIONAL FOREST to Play Edinburgh Fringe

UR MEAN KATHLEEN will present The Body I Left in Susquehanna National Forest. A pair of newlyweds question their relationship when one becomes attached to a talking corpse. Performances will run at Upper Theatre at theSpace @ Niddry St, 7 – 22 Aug 2026.

In a grisly comedy thriller, two newlyweds begin to question their relationship, gender roles in a modern marriage, and sexuality when they're left stranded in a forest after hitting a woman with their car. Fresh from the altar, Claire and Patrick are determined to be blissful and carefree as they head for their Niagara Falls honeymoon, but their collision with Megan in Susquehanna National Forest sets them on a dark and paranoid path of doubt and denial. As they begin to question how much of their relationship is based on turning a blind eye, the plot takes a twist when Meghan starts talking and Claire's growing attraction to her puts the day-old marriage at risk. The Body I Left in Susquehanna National Forest gives rise to topics of toxic relationships, insecurity, and when compromise becomes denial.

Director and co-producer Katie Kunkel said, “As a creative team we've always been drawn to stories that find humor in the uncomfortable, because for us, laughter has long been a way of making sense of chaos. This play leans into that by exploring denial on two levels: the fallout of a very literal accident and the slow realization that a marriage isn't what it claims to be. It's a relationship unravelling under extreme circumstances, where absurdity becomes a way to process something deeply human. What excites us most is centring a woman in that chaos, following her dark, unexpected path toward self-discovery as she begins to confront the compromises she's made. Bringing that story to Fringe feels like the perfect opportunity to share bold, character-driven work on a global stage.”

UR MEAN KATHLEEN is an NYC based company led by August Kiss Fegley and Katie Kunkel, a duo that has been making theatre since they joined forces in 2016. Their work tackles challenging and diverting narratives putting women at the centre. The stories they tell swing big, embracing the full spectrum of genres, from cabaret to burlesque to poetic drama. Between the two, they've worked with Philadelphia Fringe Arts, Chautauqua Theatre Company, Syracuse Stage, The Tank, and 59E59 Theaters, among others. Their Edinburgh Fringe debut Saloon Girls won the 2025 Derek Award for Hidden Gem of the Fringe, and the Fringe Theatre Award.

Tom Quackenbush is a Queer, Chicago based playwright and sketch comedian. A Columbia College graduate with a B.A. in Comedic Writing and Performance, his work most often explores the intersection of comedy, suspense, and horror. Most often utilising fantastical elements to demonstrate nature human emotion, most of his work finds itself drawing from the theatre of the absurd. He recently wrote and starred in a new play, Mr. and Mr. Murder, which premiered to a sold-out run this spring at Theatre Momentum in Chicago.
