REMEMBER, REMEMBER! will make its Edinburgh Festival Fringe debut with a musical retelling of the Gunpowder Plot that places queer storytelling and comedy at the center of one of Britain's most familiar historical events.

Winner of the Pleasance Charlie Hartill Fund 2026 and the Glitch Award at Lambeth Fringe, the production follows Robert Catesby and reimagines the events surrounding the failed 1605 plot through a contemporary lens filled with original songs, comedy, and pop culture references.

The musical stars Lucy Buncombe as Guy Fawkes, Kluane Saunders as Robert Catesby, Ross Tomlinson as King James I, and Tom O'Kelly as fellow conspirator Andy. The cast is joined onstage by musical director Isabella Guilar on keyboards.

Written by emerging company WIT? Theatre and directed by Alex Pritchett, the production blends historical figures with contemporary humor while intentionally taking liberties with the historical record.

“We've worked our historical little bottoms off to create a show that exists purely to make people laugh,” said Pritchett. “If you've always wanted to know the true story of the Gunpowder Plot, then you should probably Google it. We've barely heard of it. But we do know that Guy Fawkes had a massive bulge.”

The creative team describes the production as a celebration of camp performance, musical comedy, and alternative perspectives on familiar stories. Through songs, comedy, and theatrical spectacle, REMEMBER, REMEMBER! revisits the folklore surrounding Bonfire Night while creating a fictionalized and irreverent new interpretation.

Previous productions by WIT? Theatre have focused on developing original work, and the company brings a new musical score and ensemble-driven approach to the Fringe production.
