Photo Coverage: International Premiere of THE INCONVENIENCE OF WINGS at the Edinburgh Assembly Fringe Festival

The international premiere of Lara Foot's THE INCONVENIENCE OF WINGS, which has played three successful seasons in its country of origin, South Africa, takes place as part of the Baxter Theatre Centre's impressive showcase of six award-winning and cutting-edge productions at the 2017 Edinburgh Assembly Fringe Festival in Scotland this August. Presented in association with Assembly Festival and Riverside Studios, the six dramas include two other Foot plays, TSHEPANG: THE THIRD TESTAMENT and KAROO MOOSE - NO FATHERS, as well as the devised piece, THE FALL, Sylvaine Strike's TOBACCO and Yael Farber's MIES JULIE.

In THE INCONVENIENCE OF WINGS, triple Fringe First-winner Andrew Buckland stars as Paul, husband to Sara (Jennifer Steyn), who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She is compulsive, alive and hates women who know how to make cupcakes. Paul is on a mission to find a cure for her afflictions and befriends and consults with Professor James (Mncedisi Shabangu) who quietly tries to save him from the inconvenience of his wings.

Leading South African writer and director Lara Foot's latest play is a powerful and poignant drama about friendship, dysfunction, addiction and angels. It makes for compelling viewing with burning contemporary themes such as bipolar disorder and compulsion and its devastating effect on the family. Set in a landscape of memory and dreams, THE INCONVENIENCE OF WINGS cuts close to the bone for anyone who has suffered mental illness themselves, or has lived with someone who is afflicted. The design team of THE INCONVENIENCE OF WINGS includes Mannie Manim (lights), Patrick Curtis (set), Philip Miller (sound) and Birrie le Roux (costumes) Miller has also composed original music for the piece, while Grant van Ster provides the choreography.
