DELUGE by Gabi Flares to Return to Edinburgh Festival Fringe
The one-woman show by Gabi Flares and Andrea Maciel will play Underbelly Cowgate's Big Belly.
Following its successful 2024 run, Deluge by Gabi Flares will return to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, inviting audiences back into its surreal, tender and darkly humorous exploration of grief.
In the wake of a relationship, a woman circles the drain, sifting through other people's stories in an attempt to contain her overflowing thoughts. But something is blocked, and to make matters worse, there are leaks to fix in her house. It was meant to be a quick job, but the holes just keep getting bigger… the water is rising.
Inspired by a break-up and over 40 interviews from a social media call out, Deluge delves into the different stages of mourning, and puts a magic realist spin on dealing with grief. A ‘dramedy' that fuses theatre and comedy with physicality, text, clowning, original music and projection, this one-woman show reflects on grief, loss and letting go to fully embrace the future.
Gabi Flares is a London-based Brazilian actress, dancer, clown and writer, investigating the poetical and humorous interplay between movement and text through the body. In Deluge, Flares brings together her interdisciplinary approach to create a richly textured performance that is both visually inventive and emotionally resonant.
Deluge will be performed 15:30 at Underbelly's Big Belly, Underbelly Cowgate, Thursday 05 - Sunday 30 August (no show 18 Aug).
