BECOMING DR. RUTH to Make UK Premiere At Edinburgh Fringe

This Edinburgh Fringe, Andy Jordan Productions and Persistent Turtle will present the UK premiere of BECOMING DR. RUTH, the acclaimed and deeply moving solo play about the extraordinary life of legendary sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer.

Written by acclaimed playwright Mark St. Germain and performed by Broadway veteran Anne O'Sullivan, BECOMING DR. RUTH charts the astonishing journey of the woman who transformed the way the world talks about sex.

With warmth, wit and infectious humour, the production follows Ruth Westheimer's remarkable path from Holocaust survivor and Kindertransport refugee to unlikely media phenomenon and America's most beloved sex therapist. Standing just 4'7", Dr. Ruth became a cultural icon whose candid advice, joyful spirit and fearless honesty shattered taboos and opened up public conversations about intimacy, relationships and human connection.

At the centre of the play is a dazzling solo performance by Broadway's Anne O'Sullivan, whose portrayal has captivated audiences and critics alike. Anne O'Sullivan said

Directed by award-winning American theatre-maker Stephen Nachamie, the production balances humour and heartbreak, illuminating not only Dr. Ruth's celebrity years, but also the trauma, resilience and optimism that shaped her life.

Audiences encounter a woman who survived unimaginable loss, reinvented herself repeatedly, and ultimately became one of the most recognisable voices in modern popular culture, all while encouraging millions around the world to embrace openness, compassion and pleasure.

Funny, fearless and profoundly human, BECOMING DR. RUTH celebrates a woman whose life story is every bit as extraordinary as her public persona.

The production runs from August 6–30 at 4:55 p.m., with a running time of 70 minutes. Reviews begin on August 7. The show is categorized as Theatre + True-Life and New Writing, is recommended for ages 14 and up, and contains non-explicit descriptions of sexual activity.
