The Granada Theatre Concert Series Presents Christmas with the Vienna Boys Choir

By:

The Granada Theatre Concert Series will kick off a festive lineup of performances this holiday season with the Vienna Boys Choir on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 7:00 pm. One of the world's oldest and most illustrious choral groups, the enchanting Vienna Boys Choir returns to The Granada Theatre for a performance of popular folk songs, classical masterpieces and beloved holiday favorites. Christmas with the Vienna Boys Choir is the perfect holiday tradition for the entire family.

No group of child musicians has won more renown than the incomparable Wiener Sängerknaben, founded by Emperor Maximilian I in 1498. The role of the choir, numbering between fourteen and twenty members, was to provide musical accompaniment for church services.

Six centuries later, the famed Vienna Boys Choir continues to delight music-lovers across the globe with their purity of tone, distinctive charm, and a diverse repertoire encompassing Austrian folk songs and waltzes, classical masterpieces, medieval chant, and popular music. The group includes approximately 100 choristers from 30 different nations, between the ages of 10 to 14. Throughout their performance history, the choir has worked with many well-known composers, including Salieri, Mozart, Schubert and Bruckner. Divided into four touring choirs, the choir performs approximately 300 concerts each year in front of nearly 500,000 people. Christmas with the Vienna Boys Choir is certain to be an extraordinary performance for the entire family this holiday season!
