PCPA's FIDDLER ON THE ROOF Returns Now thru 7/6

By:

Fiddler on the Roof, a gem from Broadway's Golden Age of musicals, moves to Solvang to launch PCPA's summer season. It plays from tonight, June 13 through July 6, performances are at 8pm. Fiddler is a celebration of life and its challenges. Trying to balance life - like a fiddler on a roof - Tevye attempts to hold onto his traditions despite sweeping social change that is upsetting his family values while threatening his town's very existence.

The musical is directed by Roger DeLaurier and features resident equity artist Erik Stein as Tevye the dairyman who must find suitable husbands for his daughters and has ongoing respectful debates with the God. DeLaurier said that Fiddlerappeals to our core values and addresses the collision of generational expectations and exasperations.

PCPA's creative team includes original choreography by Michael Jenkinson, musical direction by Callum Morris, scenic design by DeAnne Kennedy, costume design by Frederick P. Deeben, lighting design by Jennifer 'Z' Zornow, sound design by Elisabeth Rebel and stage manager is Heather Patterson.

In addition to Erik Stein* in the role of Tevye, the cast includes Kitty Balay* as Golde, Karin Hendricks as Tzeitel, Elizabeth Stuart* as Yente/Fruma-Sarah, Michael Jenkinson* as Motel, Leo Cortez as Mordcha, and Peter S. Hadres* as Rabbi. George Walker will cover the role of Perchik which was played during the spring run by Quinn Mattfeld*.

Fiddler on the Roof first appeared on Broadway in 1964 and swept the Tony's with nine "Best" awards including Best Musical for a score that features "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," "If I were a Rich Man," "Sunrise, Sunset," and "Do You Love Me."
