BWW Preview: Instant Karma Improv Comedy Presents SPONTANEOUS BROADWAY at Center Stage

There just isn't enough good improv in Santa Barbara. Even with my ear to the theatrical boards, it just doesn't seem to be a thing here in town. So I enjoy when Instant Karma Improv Comedy comes to town with their series of unscripted genre narratives. This Saturday, March 18th, the improv comedy troupe, along with guest performers from Ventura Improv Company, brings their take on classic theatre to Center Stage for Spontaneous Broadway: The Amazing Improvised Broadway Musical.

In Act I, the artists present solo songs, and the audience votes for their favorite. Act II is an improvised musical based on the chosen song. Live music is an essential part of the Broadway Experience, and Spontaneous Broadway wouldn't be complete without a musical director to both follow and prompt the improvised narrative on stage. Spontaneous Broadway features musical improviser, Richard Allen, who creates the soundtrack to the solos and musical numbers invented in the moment. Spontaneous Broadway brings song, dance, drama, romance, and comedy--all the staples of a staged show, without the staging!
