ANNIE Comes To Unity In San Luis Obispo, Closes 3/6

By:

Leapin' lizards! The timeless tale of Little Orphan Annie is back, giving a whole new generation the chance to experience this classic musical about never losing hope. The family-friendly musical Annie will close March 6.

" Annie is an elating piece of family theater," says the New York Times. "One of the best musicals ever," proclaims the Chicago Tribune, and the Chicago Sun-Times says, "Ageless Annie is as engaging as ever."

Set during the Great Depression, Annie tells the story of the ever-hopeful orphan who holds fast to her dream of family and happiness at a time in American history when looking towards "Tomorrow" was exceedingly difficult. With her faithful dog Sandy by her side, the indomitable Annie wins the heart of zillionaire Oliver Warbucks. Together, they foil an evil plot hatched by the villainous orphanage director, Miss Hannigan, who cares only about money and knows nothing of the power of love. In the end, good triumphs over evil, and Annie embarks on a life of happiness and adventure as the newly-adopted daughter of her Daddy Warbucks.

Annie, with music by Charles Strouse and book by Thomas Meehan, is directed and choreographed by Erik Austin with musical direction by Stephen Tosh, set design by Chris Skanes, and costuming by Costume Capers.

The original Broadway production of Annie won seven 1977 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Book and Score. It ran for 2,377 performances, making it one of the top twenty longest running shows in Broadway history. With subsequent productions all over the world, Annie lives on as one of the most successful musicals ever. Boasting one of Broadway's most memorable scores, including "It's the Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street," "N.Y.C." and the ever optimistic "Tomorrow," Annie is a delightful theatrical experience for the entire family. You can bet your bottom dollar that Annie will bring a smile to your face.

Annie will play at Unity from February 18 through March 6. Please note the family-friendly performance schedule: Fridays and Saturdays at 7 PM, Sundays at 2 PM. Ticket prices are $14 for children and $18 for adults and may be charged by phone at 805-543-PLAY. Annie is the second show of Kelrik's 2011 "Imagine" season which also includes Pinkalicious, Aladdin and Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
