Love & Hope & Magic: The Making of Jinx, the Musical,” is a documentary chronicling the creation of the original stage production “Jinx.” The film follows the development of “Jinx,” created by Borel alumni and sisters Makena and Teagan Reynolds as well as JT Kaufman, which began in 2022 under the direction of Borel Drama Teacher Alyssa Goldrath. She commissioned the trio — then in their early twenties — after being impressed by their prior collaboration, “The Emily Dickinson Musical.” Makena wrote the “Jinx” book, Teagan wrote the lyrics and co-composed the music with Kaufman.
Recognizing the extraordinary energy unfolding behind the scenes, filmmakers Jeanne Barrett and Wendy Sims began documenting the process. Working with collaborators Vin Eiamvuthikorn and David Feldman, the team followed the evolution of the musical from its earliest concept through writing and casting to rehearsals and performances. The 45-minute film explores the collaboration, problem solving and artistic growth that defined the musical production. The documentary is produced by SimBarGo Productions, the creative partnership of Sims, Barrett and Goldrath. Barrett is the film’s director; Sims serves as director of photography and editor; and Goldrath is a producer on the project.
