Philadelphia-area based playwright Bill Savage brings his new play “DADDY’S GIRL” 3,000 miles for its world premiere in San Francisco Aug. 9, 10 and 11 as part of this year’s FREE-PLAY FESTIVAL. In the tradition of some of the great American plays of the 20th century, “DADDY’S GIRL” looks as the human toll certain family issues can have across generations. It follows the story of a father and daughter, separated for three decades, and both the unresolved questions and the irreparable damage that such a separation can cause. But it also leaves open the possibility that some healing, and some answers, could possibly be forthcoming. “I hope audiences will be moved both by the pathos of the character of Larry, whose life has been overwhelmed by the pain of essentially losing his daughter, as well as the story of his now-grown daughter, whose own life has been fraught with difficulties and the void his absence has left in her life,” Savage says. “But I think everyone will be touched by the way they both come to terms with that.”
