TheatreWorks Silicon Valley to Participate in THE GHOSTLIGHT PROJECT
On the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley will join with others in the theatre community - from Broadway to regional theatres to high schools and colleges, and community theatres - at 5:30pm, Thursday, January 19, 2017 to participate in The Ghostlight Project. While The Ghostlight Project is planned to gather the community outside of theatres, TheatreWorks - which does not present at a single home base - will live stream its event from its many theatre spaces including the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto, the Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts, a TheatreWorks classroom, and TheatreWorks' Hambly Rehearsal Hall in Redwood City. It can be viewed on Facebook Live at: https://www.facebook.com/TheatreWorksSV.
Inspired by the tradition of leaving a "ghost light" on in a darkened theatre, members of the TheatreWorks staff and community will renew its pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone - regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
The Ghostlight Project is a gathering within a larger resistance to intolerance at all levels. It aims to create brave spaces that will serve as lights in the coming years, and to activate a network of people across the country working to support vulnerable communities pledging for continued vigilance and increased advocacy.
With some 100,000 patrons per year, TheatreWorks Silicon Valley has captured a national reputation for artistic innovation and integrity, often presenting Bay Area theatregoers with their first look at acclaimed musicals, comedies, and dramas, directed by award-winning local and guest directors, and performed by professional actors cast locally and from across the country.
