Theatre Rhinoceros to Present WALK LIKE A MAN at The Costume Shop, 5/28-6/15

Theatre Rhinoceros presents WALK LIKE A MAN, written by Laurinda D. Brown (2006 Lambda Literary Award-Winner for "Best Lesbian Erotica"). Directed by John Fisher, the Bay Area Premiere will run May 28 - June 15, 2014, playing Wed. - Sat. - 8:00 pm / Sun. - 3:00 pm.

Walk Like a Man is sex with an attitude for women of all ages and ethnicities. Based on characters taken from the collection of short stories, Walk Like A Man - The Play is presented in spoken word, comedic scenes and dramatic monologues that spotlight issues in the African-American lesbian community. Strap on your attitude and dive into ten different pulsating stories from women who love the way you love, living life on the edge, exploring sexuality - uninhibited.

Walk Like a Man features an all-female cast portraying women loving women in everyday situations including: falling in love with the boss, losing a partner through the casualty of war, parental abuse, emotional infidelity, rape, true romance, the joy of new love, sex and religion, and coming out. Walk Like A Man - The Play is a gender studies course wrapped in lesbian erotica.

Laurinda D. Brown (playwright) uses her writing to tell universal stories that apply to all cross-sections of society. A graduate of Howard University, she writes about life, not lifestyles. She currently resides in the Atlanta metro area with her two daughters. Her bestselling books, published by Simon and Schuster, include Walk Like a Man (Lambda Award Winner),Undercover, Fire and Brimstone and The Highest Price for Passion. John Fisher (director) Fisher's plays include The Joy of Gay Sex, which was produced Off-Broadway, and Medea: The Musical, which was produced as a part of the HBO Comedy Arts Festival and ran for 18 months in its original SF production. John is a two-time winner of the Will Glickman Playwright Award, and a recipient of an NEA Project Grant, a GLAAD Media Award, two L.A. Weekly Awards, a Garland Award, two Cable Car Awards, a SF Bay Guardian Goldie Award, and five Bay Area Theatre Critics' Circle Awards. He holds a Ph.D. in Dramatic Art from the UC Berkeley and has taught at UC Berkeley, UC Santa Cruz, ACT and at the Yale School of Drama. Recent work includes SexRev: The José Sarria Experience, a TheatreRhino production at CounterPULSE, the Sondheim musical Road Show, The Habit of Art by Alan Bennett and his own playTo Sleep and Dream at Z Below.
