The Women of A.C.T. Perform THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

By:

The women of American Conservatory Theater perform Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues as part of the national V-Day celebration. All proceeds from the event, which is spearheaded and produced by members of the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program, will go to La Casa de les Madres women's shelter in San Francisco and the V-Day organization. The cast features A.C.T. core acting company member René Augesen, A.C.T. Artistic Director Carey Perloff, and A.C.T. Conservatory Director Melissa Smith, joined by a selection of A.C.T. staff members, A.C.T. M.F.A. Program students, and Bay Area actresses.

The cast, which will be divided between the two performances, includes A.C.T. core acting company member René Augesen; A.C.T. staff members Carey Perloff, Melissa Smith, Janette Andrawes, Meryl Shaw, Stacy Beckley, Beatrice Basso, Elizabeth Brodersen, Ellen Cassidy, Carly Cioffi, Hannah Cohen, Rose Hogan, Eliza Leoni, and Katie May; A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program students Shinelle Azoroh, Stephanie DeMott, Marisa Duchowny, Christina Elmore, Caroline Hewitt, Sophia Holman, Sara Hogrefe, Omozé Idehenre, Jenna Johnson, Emily Kitchens, Jessica Kitchens, Mairin Lee, Lakisha May, Maggie Rastetter, Courtney Thomas, and Ashley Wickett; and local actors Cindy Goldfield and Barbara Oliver.

V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day is a catalyst that promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise money, and revitalize the spirit of existing anti-violence organizations. V-Day generates broader attention for the fight to stop violence against women and girls, including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation, and sexual slavery. Through V-Day campaigns, local volunteers and college students produce annual benefit performances of The Vagina Monologues to raise awareness and funds for anti-violence groups within their own communities.

The Vagina Monologues will be performed on Tuesday, February 9, at 9:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, February 10, at 9:30 p.m. in the Garret Room on the fifth floor of the American Conservatory Theater (415 Geary Street at Mason, San Francisco). Suggested donation for attendance is $10. Drinks and baked goods will be available for purchase; the bar opens at 9 p.m. Please visit www.act-sf.org for more information; to reserve a seat, please emailactvday@gmail.com.
