The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon Announce the 2017 'Scholarship for the Arts' Finalists

Jo Schuman Silver, producer of Steve Silver's Beach Blanket Babylon, announced today the nine Bay Area high school seniors selected as finalists for the 15th Anniversary of The Steve Silver Foundation and Beach Blanket Babylon "Scholarship for the Arts." Each of the finalists will perform live in front of family, friends and a panel of celebrity judges on Monday, June 5. One winner in each category-singing, dancing, and acting-will be presented with a $15,000 check towards their college education. The nine high school senior finalists who will perform are:

ACTING
Frank Demma - Marin School of the Arts at Novato High School, Novato
Haley Skinner - Marin School of the Arts at Novato High School, Novato
Peter Stielstra - Lowell High School, San Francisco

DANCING
Brianna Barnes - Dublin High School, Dublin
Yongfeng Lim - Bellarmine College Preparatory, San Jose
Aurora Vaughan - Gunn High School, Palo Alto

SINGING
Walker Brinskele - NOVA Independent Study School, Novato
Blake Du Bois - Carlmont High School, Belmont
Emilie Suarez - Independent High School, San Francisco

"I am so impressed by the caliber of these performances and the passion, dedication, and talent exemplified by this year's students. It is always a difficult job to narrow it down to nine finalists. Now, it is in the hands of our esteemed judges!" said Schuman Silver. The celebrity panel of judges scheduled to appear include: choreographer Val Caniparoli, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Tracy Chapman, actor, playwright, and KGO Radio's Brian Copeland, American political satirist Will Durst, composer and philanthropist Gordon Getty, SFJAZZ Center's Founder and Executive Artistic Director Randall Kline, Resident Choreographer for Hamilton Derek Mitchell, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts' Chief of Civic Engagement Jonathan Moscone, American Conservatory Theater's Artistic Director Carey Perloff, San Francisco Opera's General Director Matthew Shilvock, KCBS AM & FM's Jan Wahl, and jazz and cabaret singer Paula West. Master of Ceremonies for the evening is radio legend, Don Bleu.
