The Merchant of Venice at Cal Shakes, Begins August 9
California Shakespeare Theater continues its 2006 season with The Merchant of Venice, directed by nationally acclaimed director Daniel Fish. Fish, whose production of Measure for Measure for Cal Shakes in 2003 was hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as "wonderfully immediate, restlessly provocative and unusually touching and funny," brings his unique vision to one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays, creating a theatrically daring, emotionally complex, and altogether captivating production of morality, revenge, redemption, and love.
The Merchant of Venice begins previews August 9, 10 and 11 at 8:00PM, with an opening August 12 and runs until September 3. Performances are Tuesdays through Thursdays at 7:30PM; Fridays at 8:00PM; Saturdays at 2:00PM (September 2 only) and 8:00PM; and Sundays at 4:00PM.The California Shakespeare Theater is located at the Bruns Amphitheater, 100 Gateway Blvd., Orinda, CA.
