EL GATO DEL DIABLO THEATRE COMPANY

PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF
"THE LEGENDARY AND FABULOUS PASSION PLAY"
JULY 14 - AUGUST 19, 2006

SAN FRANCISCO (June 14, 2006) El Gato Del Diablo Theatre Company presents the World Premiere of THE LEGENDARY AND FABULOUS PASSION PLAY, a new work by Shawn Ferreyra, author of last year's THE RISE AND FALL OF THE MONKEY KING. Set in an underground drag world where legends are made, beauty and dreams triumph over oppression with the help of a misunderstood Messiah who makes the biggest sacrifice for love. Amy Louise Cole will direct. THE LEGENDARY AND FABULOUS PASSION PLAY runs July 14 (press opening: Friday, July 21) through August 19 at the EXIT Stage Left. For tickets ($20), the public may call Brown Paper Tickets at 800-838-3006 or visit
www.elgatotheatre.org.

THE LEGENDARY AND FABULOUS PASSION PLAY tells the story of star-crossed lovers banned from creating a union because of their sex, the holy messenger who brings us the one truth about love and marriage, and the religious zealots who, like everybody else, are looking for answers in a world that has none.

The play stars Norman Muñoz (CORPUS CHRISTI at Theatre Rhinoceros), Alex Hsu (IRVING BERLIN'S WHITE CHRISTMAS at the Orpheum Theatre), Matt Socha (PAPER DOLLS at the Exit Theatre), Nancy Dobbs Owen (PHANTOM OF THE OPERA 1st National Tour, 42nd Street Moon, AMTSJ), and Christina Lowery (THE CROWNING OF MILOSH at Counterpulse).

Playwright Shawn Ferreyra wrote and directed last year's THE RISE ANDS FALL OF THE MONKEY KING, which theatre writer Chloe Veltman called "slickly directed with an engagingly surreal aesthetic." He has worked with a variety of theatre companies as a director, stage manager, publicist, and scenic artist.

Art Director Amy Louise Cole trained with Robyn Hunt in the Suzuki method at The University of Washington and has studied Shakespeare performance at the Royal Academy of Art in London. She has worked with theatre companies all over the Bay Area as a performer, designer, administrator, and now as a teaching artist.

Founded in 2005 by Shawn Ferreyra and Amy Louise Cole, El Gato Del Diablo Theatre Company is a San Francisco-based theatre company offering topical, relevant and affordable productions to adults and young audiences that honor the craft of theatre in its most authentic form. The productions are geared to a diverse audience and present multicultural and globalized viewpoints. Towards these ends, production values rely more on imagination than on spectacle. El Gato Theatre is a proud member of The Incubator Program at The Intersection for the Arts.
