From page to stage, actor-writer-producer Eric Krebs stars in his one man Off-Broadway narrative, based on an autobiography written by his father.

In 1938, a German seaman, Richard Krebs, jumped ship in Newport News, Virginia and vanished into America. In 1940, writing under the name Jan Valtin, he published his story, "Out of the Night." He had been a communist revolutionary serving Stalin, a Gestapo prisoner of the Third Reich, and had escaped from both of them.

The book became a national sensation. In 1942, Krebs went to prison on Ellis Island as an enemy alien and then joined the Army to fight the rest of the war as a combat infantryman in the Pacific.

Using cartons of letters discovered in 2007, Eric brings to life the passion, beauty and despair of his father's extraordinary life 65 years ago. Directed by Christopher Scott.

The Amas Salon is designed to present up-close and personal events that celebrate the New York Theatre scene and some of its brightest talents. Join friends and supporters of Amas Musical Theatre for this very special evening, Monday, November 7, 2016.
