TRUE WEST Begins Performances at Marin Actors' Workshop
Marin Actors' Workshop (with Ken Bacon Productions and Marin OnStage) present "True West" by Sam Shepard.
Mom's away and the boys will play. Two adult brothers, opposite in philosophy and personality, take their rivalry to another level in Sam Shepard's dark comedy "True West." Sharp barbs and quick fire dialog bring this story to its ultimate showdown when Austin and Lee come together after years of estrangement and reveal their true nature and "brotherhood" amid typewriters and toasters.
The brothers represent two sides of the American west ~ one is sophisticated, cultured, ambitious and successful, while the other is alienated, outcast, raw and violent. When they exchange places, the brothers reveal that each is the double of the other. "True West" emphasizes that, despite the American belief in starting anew, the past is never over but continues to intrude into the present. Family dysfunction, sibling rivalry and role reversal make this one of Sam Shepard's most popular plays and demonstrates why he is considered one of America's prolific modern playwrights.
This production of "True West" continues the Marin Actors' Workshop annual tradition of critically acclaimed plays including "Petrified Forest" in 2011 and "Humble Boy" in 2010.
Directed by Terry McGovern (A San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics' Circle 2010 award-winning director for Marin Actors' Workshop's production of "Humble Boy."
For mature audiences only. This dark comedy features violence, strong language and is not recommended for audiences under 14-years old.
