Los Altos Stage Company will present The Toxic Avenger, The Musical, bringing superhero satire and rock-fueled fun to the Bus Barn Theater from June 5 to June 28. Audiences can enjoy evening performances Wednesday through Saturday at 8 pm, and Sunday matinees at 3 pm. A special pay-what-you-can preview is set for June 4, welcoming everyone to experience the show.
Based on the cult classic film, The Toxic Avenger, The Musical is a hilarious send-up of superhero and monster tales. The story follows Melvin Ferd, a mild-mannered earth scientist in the fictional, pollution-plagued town of Tromaville, New Jersey. When Melvin uncovers a toxic waste dumping scandal, he's attacked by the town bullies and thrown into a vat of radioactive sludge. Emerging as the monstrous yet endearing Toxic Avenger, he becomes an unlikely champion, fighting political corruption, environmental disaster, and his own self-doubt. Packed with infectious rock songs, outrageous comedy, and heart, The Toxic Avenger delivers a message of hope, acceptance, and the transformative power of standing up to injustice.
The Toxic Avenger, The Musical features a book and lyrics by Tony Award winner Joe DiPietro (Memphis, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change) and music and lyrics by David Bryan, keyboardist and founding member of Bon Jovi. Together, DiPietro and Bryan have created a show that combines irreverent humor, catchy rock tunes, and memorable characters, turning a cult film into a crowd-pleasing musical celebration.
The Los Altos Stage Company production is helmed by director Doug Brook, with musical direction by Gus Kambeitz and choreography by Brittany Watts. Their creative vision delivers a high-spirited, laugh-out-loud adventure that's both irreverent and uplifting.
The talented cast features Harker Russell, Kennedy Johnson, Molly Thornton, Gary Stanford, and Max Mahle.
