Symphony Napa Valley Presents CHRISTMAS AT THE SYMPHONY

Soprano Marnie Breckenridge returns to Symphony Napa Valley with a selection of holiday favorites by Bach, Vivaldi and from Handel's Messiah, as well as Ave Maria and O Holy Night with Symphony Napa Valley conducted by Michael Guttman. The concert also includes Winter from Vivaldi's Four Seasons with Guttman as soloist, and concludes with a rousing sing-along of favorite Christmas carols where you can join in the festivities!

Lincoln Theater was also delighted to partner with Brian Arden Wines, sponsors of the concert, to host a special musical preview of the concert at the winery on November 13th. Approximately 30 symphony lovers gathered for an intimate evening of music and conversation about the symphony program by Friction Quartet, Artists in Residence at Lincoln Theater and members of Symphony Napa Valley. Together, the musicians and guests explored the music of the baroque period through the works of Henry Purcell, the greatest English composer of the Baroque era, and Benjamin Britton, who was deeply influenced by Purcell. Friction Quartet will be performing with the full Symphony, Marnie Breckenridge and Michael Guttman on December 2nd.

American soprano Marnie Breckenridge has captivated international audiences with roles ranging from the Baroque and Bel Canto to Modern. The NY Times praised Breckenridge's "lovely soprano" and the Chicago Tribune said," she sounded as gorgeous as she looked, achieving both lyrical poignancy and dramatic power." Breckenridge made her Carnegie Hall debut singing the soprano solos in Mozart's Coronation Mass last spring. Other recent concert work includes soprano soloist in two special Sound Box performances (San Francisco Symphony), and Ein Deutsches Requiem and Carmina Burana (SF Choral Society at Davies Symphony Hall), among other roles worldwide. Her performances have been reviewed as "note perfect" (Prague Post) and "simply terrific" (Opera Magazine, UK).

Michael Guttman is the music director of the Symphony Napa Valley and the Belgian Chamber Orchestra. He is also a violinist, conductor and director of prominent festivals around the world, including Pietrasanta in Concerto, Crans Montana Classics in Switzerland, Le Printemps du Violon in Paris, and Made in Polin in Warsaw. Guttman received the prestigious Scopus Prize (2014) and was also nominated for a Grammy award for his Hindemith Album with the Philarmonia Orchestra. Guttman plays on a 1735 Guarneri del Gesù violin once owned by the great Italian violinist and composer Giovanni Battista Viotti.

Friction Quartet gave their Carnegie Hall debut as part of the Kronos Quartet Workshop in 2016. Their performances have been called "terribly beautiful" by the San Francisco Classical Voice and the San Francisco Chronicle praised their "high-octane music-making... a fine blend of rhythmic ferocity and tonal flair."
