The Aurora Theatre Company opens its 15th season with one of Oscar Wilde's most notorious plays, Salome.

Written in 1891 and banned during rehearsals, Salome is Wilde's "wild take on the infamous Biblical temptress and her unrequited love of the prophet Jokanaan," states press notes, "Interpreting one of the most famous stories in myth and religion, this tale of a woman's desperate dance and the martyrdom of a holy man is now considered to be one of the most important symbolic works in modern drama."

Virtuoso performer Ron Campbell, last seen at Aurora Theatre Company in the tour-de-force The Thousandth Night, returns to the company as Salome's lascivious stepfather Herod.  Mark Jackson directs.

Salome is in previews August 26 at 8PM and August 27 at 2PM, officially opening August 31 at 8PM, to close October 1.  Performances are Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8PM, and Sundays at 2PM and 7PM.  The Aurora Theatre is located at 2081 Addison Street, Berkeley, CA
