Rex Reed's THE MAN THAT GOT AWAY featuring Linda Purl, Gregory Harrison, Sally Mayes and more will play San Francisco, CA (April 13, 14 & 15), and at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA (April 20) followed by a performance at the Queensborough Performing Arts Center in Bayside, NY (April 22).

Critic, author and lecturer Rex Reed hosts a star-studded tribute to Ira Gershwin. Mr. Reed’s narration follows Ira from childhood, through his first song-writing projects, the tragic death of his younger brother, George and the creation of the most memorable songs of the twentieth century.

“The Man That Got Away: Ira Without George,” focuses on the songs Ira wrote without his brother, including collaborations with Vernon Duke, Kurt Weill, Harold Arlen, Harry Warren, and Jerome Kern.  Joining Rex Reed for the celebration are Linda Purl, Kurt Reichenbach, Gregory Harrison, and special guest Sally Mayes.  This all-star cast performs some 27 numbers, including I Can’t Get Started, Spring Again, My Ship, Long Ago and Far Away, and The Man That Got Away.

“The mere mention of the name "Gershwin" brings to mind the genius brothers whose music and words transcend time.  Each brilliant in their own right, on this evening we delight in Ira’s words” says Susan Agin, Executive & Artistic Director of QPAC.
