Pittsburg Community Theatre Will Present NEXT TO NORMAL This April

Pittsburg Community Theatre presents the Tony and Pulitzer Prize winning musical NEXT TO NORMAL, April 20 thru 29, 2018 at the California Theatre in beautiful downtown Pittsburg.

This riveting musical, with music by Tom Kitt, book and lyrics by Brian Yorkey and direction by Dianna Schepers (South Pacific, Into the Woods), will get under your skin with its heartfelt look at how one suburban household copes with crises and deals with the effects of mental illness. In the words of The New York Times, NEXT TO NORMAL is "much more than a feel-good musical; it is a feel-everything musical."

The Goodman's seem like a perfect loving family. The only problem is that sometimes mother Diana (Bobbie Barlow) is, well ... a little too happy... or too sad. Her husband Dan (Keith Barlow) worries and tries to hold the house together. Her daughter Natalie (Melissa Marie) seems awfully intent on getting that music scholarship to Yale so she can leave home. And her son Gabe (Christian Castillo), well ... that's another story entirely. You might think a musical about the devastating toll of mental illness on a contemporary suburban family might seem odd, but NEXT TO NORMAL is relevant and reflective of many families today. This modern rock musical with a mix of musical styles turned out to be one of Broadway's biggest hits winning three Tony Awards in 2009, including Best Musical, and the Pulitzer Prize for its heartbreaking, humorous and unflinchingly authentic story of a family's struggle with the effects of one family member's bipolar disorder. Each character's journey is punctuated by powerful music performed by a six piece band directed by Mark Dietrich with vocal direction by G.A. Klein.

Note: This performance includes adult language and situations.
