Photo Flash: SELKIE at Weathervane Productions

The northern California coastline has been a huge influence and source of inspiration for SELKIE, a new play presented by Weathervane Productions and Rising Phoenix Repertory, February 9-24, 2016 at Z Space in San Francisco. Check out photos from the show below!

SELKIE takes place in a fictional northern California coastal town in a bygone era. Playwright Sarah Shaefer and director Daniel Talbott spent a lot of time researching the history of coastal towns Monterey, Carmel, and Davenport specifically, so the producing team of SELKIE thought it would be an important way to start the process of working on the play to do a research trip to Carmel with the cast. The group spent three days in Carmel visiting Point Lobos State Reserve, along with trips to the Carmel Mission and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. The ocean itself is almost a seventh character in SELKIE, and both Shaefer and Talbott have said that they couldn't imagine a better place to premiere this play than in the Bay Area, surrounded by the Pacific and the wildlife and terrain that inspired the play.

Z Space's Main Stage will be completely transformed for this work, transporting audiences into an immersive and singular world. The set, designed around two pools of water on stage, evokes the meeting of land and sea.

The cast of SELKIE features Wendy vanden Heuvel, Addie Johnson Talbott, Briana Packen, MacLeod Andrews, Jelena Stupljanin and Jimi Stanton. Directed by Daniel Talbott, the creative team incudes scenic design by Deb O, costume design by Tristan Raines, lighting design by Kia Rogers, sound design by Jake Rodriguez, and fight choreography by Dave Anzuelo.
