Off Broadway West Theatre Company Opens WITHOUT MERCY Tonight
Off Broadway West Theatre Company ("OBWTC") proudly announces the Opening Night of their world premiere production Patricia Milton's new play, Without Mercy, opening February 24 and closing March 25. This play is not to be missed as it concerns the controversial and sensitive subject of capital punishment.
Joanna is devastated to learn her daughter, Mercy, who disappeared six years before, was murdered. Returning home from alcohol rehab, Joanna finds her surviving daughter, Bethany, bent on a personal agenda: Bethany has hired a legal advocate and insists on supporting a plea bargain for Mercy's killer. Their clash of deep-seated beliefs pits Joanna and Bethany against each other, and long-held resentments erupt around the family's tragedy. Their advocate, Sam, swears he's neutral, but his actions contradict his claim. Piece by piece, the truth unfolds as the past collides with the present. Challenged by a terrible trade-off, the three struggle to reach a resolution.
Patricia Milton (Resident Playwright @ Central Works in Berkeley, CA) - Central Works in Berkeley, CA has premiered her plays Reduction in Force (BroadwayWorld Best Local Play 2011), Enemies: Foreign and Domestic (Theatre Bay Area Outstanding World Premiere Play 2015), and Hearts of Palm. Her play, Believers (Wily West Productions, Paper Wing Theatre), recently premiered in Istanbul, Turkey. She is a former Member Playwright at 3Girls Theatre, which premiered her musical, Moments of Truth (co-written with Caroline Altman), in 2015. On March 6-9, 2017, Without Mercy will be presented at the 11th Annual International Women's Work Festival in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. This summer she will be Artist in Residence, at La Porte Peinte Centre pour les Arts, in Noyers sur Serein, France.
Directed by Richard D. Harder, the cast includes Sylvia Kratins, as Joanna Parks (the Mother), Niki Yapo-Held, as Bethany Mathews (the Daughter), & Ian Walker, as Sam Sibley (the Lawyer)
