New Conservatory Theatre Center Offers 'Pay As You Can' Event February 2 with Franc D'Ambrosio
The New Conservatory Theatre Center is pleased to offer a unique opportunity to experience this phenomenal artist/teacher in person, as he works to pass along his priceless experience and his own insights to a new generation of artists.
For the benefit of all in attendance, Franc D'Ambrosio will work specifically with four pre-selected singers from the NCTC community. As he assists them in connecting their voices to the heart of a song, we can all learn. It will be an inspiring evening of beautiful songs, insights and artistic breakthroughs.
Franc D'Ambrosio's Broadway debut was in the first revival of "Sweeney Todd" but he is best known for his run as the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera". After playing the role close to 3000 times (including the national tour and over 5 years in the San Francisco run) Franc earned the title he still holds: "The World's Longest Running Phantom".
Other career highlights include being selected to play the role of Anthony Corleone, the opera-singing son of Al Pacino and Diane Keaton, in Francis Ford Coppola's "Godfather III". The film received 7 Academy Award nominations, including Best Score. Franc had the honor of singing the Academy Award winning theme song both in the film and on the Original Motion Picture soundtrack.
It was in the Off Broadway production of "Valentino" that Franc caught the eye of Barry Manilow, who personally selected him to create and star as the male lead "Tony" in the pre-Broadway tour of "Copacabana". The show enjoyed a successful year-long national tour and his performance earned Franc a National Theatre Award nomination for Best Male Performer in a Musical.
In addition to being a master performer, Franc D'Ambrosio is also a teaching artist. His own experience and performances were enriched by working one-on-one with such masters as the late, legendary tenor, Luciano Pavarotti . Franc was personally invited by Pavarotti to study with him at his home in Pesaro. Franc also had the opportunity to study at the famed Vocal Academy of Lucca in Italy, with the late master, Lorenzo Malfatti.
ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This program supports our YouthAware educational touring program as well as theatre arts training and performance programs for young people ages 5-18. These programs combined serve 21,000 young people in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout Northern California. The Scholarship Partners campaign goal this year is $50,000 which is raised though individual donors and their matching corporate gifts.
