Miki Howard has been topping the charts since the 1980's. with ten top singles like "Come Share My Love," "'Baby Be Mine," 'That's What Love Is," 'Ain't Nothing In The World," "'Imagination," and many others. After more than 30 years in the music business, singer and actress Miki Howard continues to bring passion and soul into her music. Howard not only brings a soul element to her vocal depth, but she also embodies jazz, blues and the best of today's R&B. Aside from the string of top rated singles, she has earned nominations from Grammies, American Music Awards, Soul Train Music Awards and others.
As with so many other solo artists confined to the limitations of being in a group environment, Howard sought a solo recording contract, and recorded her first solo album with Atlantic in 1986, "Come Share My Love." Her first hit for Atlantic was the album title track. Miki followed that with her second hit, a remake of Glenn Miller's 1940 tune "Imagination."
A casting director saw Miki perform some Billie Holiday tunes at a New York City concert at Radio City Music Hall, and offered her the role of Holiday in the Spike Lee's 1992 film Malcolm X. The following year, Howard recorded an entire album of Holiday songs, titled Miki Sings Billie.
After a disastrous marriage and divorce Miki found herself being blackballed in the industry and decided to retire for a while. She released two albums and toured in the road company of the Broadway musical "Dreamgirls", playing the role of lead Dream, Deena.
Today, Miki has discovered a new found strength and is determined to regain her rightful place in musical history. Miki said, "I never really retired, just needed time to re-group and re-establish which direction I want to go." Her soulful voice still woos crowds in concert. The Rrazz Room is proud to present the San Francisco return of this great classic soul/R&B artist.WHEN: August 5-8, 8 PM; August 9, 7 PM
