The New Conservatory Theatre Center will conclude its twelfth Pride Season 2006-2007 with a new spin of an old favorite, Legends, originally written by Tony Award-Winning author James Kirkwood for theatrical legends Mary Martin and Carol Channing. The new San Francisco production is directed by Andrew Nance.

"Legends centers on the waning careers of two aging actresses sought after by wheeler-dealer producer, Martin Klemmer. Surely, if he could sign film legends Sylvia Glenn and Leatrice Monsee for a new show, then financial backing will follow," explains press notes, "There's only one problem; the divas despise each other.  This hilarious set-up provides the background for the full-blown comic confrontation between the two and the surprising and hilarious resolution."

Legends stars local African-American divas Carla Vaughn as Leatrice Monsee opposite Eleanor Jacobs as Sylvia Glenn.  P.A. Cooley plays Martin Klemmer, with additional cast including Kai Brothers as Policeman, Dorsey Dyer as Boom-Boom Johnson and Gloria Belle Whaley as Aretha Thomas.

Previews are June 1 – 7, opening press night is June 8, with performances through July 14.  Show times are Wednesdays – Saturdays at 8PM and Sundays at 2PM (no shows June 24 or July 4).

The New Conservatory Theatre Center (Walker Theatre) is located at 25 Van Ness Avenue at Market Street in San Francisco.  Tickets range from $22 - $40; $15 for students and Pay As You Wish Night is June 7.  Tickets are available at NCTC's Box Office at 415/861-8972 or online at www.nctcsf.org.
