Lake Tahoe's BROADWAY NIGHT Concert Returns With Classic Hits 7/23-8/8

By:

The Lake Tahoe Music Festival's unforgettable "Broadway Night" concert is back for another year, this season drawing from the vast catalog of songs from Broadway legends Rodgers and Hammerstein. Selections from the duo's stage hits, which include "The Sound of Music," "Kiss Me, Kate" and "Oklahoma!," are brought to life by Broadway stars Rachel York and Sal Viviano backed by the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra. The July 30 performance at Tahoe Donner in Truckee, Calif., is part of the festival's six-concert season July 23 - Aug. 8, 2009.

Dynamic and versatile, Rachel York made her Broadway debut in 1990 at 19 playing the seductive and playful role of Mallory in the original Tony Award-winning production of "City of Angels." She received a Drama Desk Award for her performance in "Victor/Victoria" and has also appeared in "Les Misérables," "Kiss Me, Kate," "The Scarlet Pimpernel" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," just to name a few. York's additional credits include the films "One Fine Day" and "Billy Bathgate" and TV series "Frasier," "Reba" and "Close To Home." In concert, York's numerous appearances include the National Symphony and the Pittsburgh Pops under the direction of conductor Marvin Hamlisch, "The Sound of Music" at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic under the direction of John Mauceri, the Israeli Opera, and the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed her celebrated cabaret, "For the Love of It," to rave reviews on both coasts, including appearances at Feinstein's at Loews Regency and the Metropolitan Room in New York City.

Broadway, television and film star Sal Viviano hit the Broadway stage in 1984's revival of "The Three Musketeers" and has continued to perform on and off Broadway with leading roles in "Beau Jest," "City of Angels," "Evita," "Chicago" and "Sunday in the Park with George," for which he received a 1998 Helen Hayes Award nomination. Viviano has also appeared in concert with nearly 100 symphony orchestras around the world including performances at the White House, World Trade Center Plaza and Carnegie Hall and has been featured on more than 60 recordings. His acting credits include "Legally Blonde 2," "Black Roses" and "Spike of Bensonhurst."

Tickets go on sale April 1 and are $50 for preferred seating and $25 for general admission. Purchase online at www.TahoeMusic.org, by phone at 530-583-3101 or at the Music Festival office, located at 10775 Pioneer Trail, Suite 210, Truckee, Calif., Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
