The Magic Theatre announced four new plays for the 2009--2010 season.
Goldfish a new play by John Kolvenbach. This is in cooperation with South Coast Rep and will be directed by Loretta Greco. It is an intimate family drama with great heart and humor. The Orange County Register called it "a small but exquisite triumph"
Oedipus El Rey a world premiere by Luis Alfaro and directed by Loretta Greco.
Luis Alfaro is a distinguished Los Angeles based playwright and MacArthur genius grant winner who began is exploration of the Greeks with his wild and wildly successful re-imaging of the Electra myth, Electricidad. Traversing Highway 99, his latest conjuring Oedipus El Rey is a perfect combination of California swagger, old school Catholicism and Chicana back break.
Terminus an American Premiere.
Written and directed by Mark O'Rowe (Howie the Rookie) from Ireland's revered Abbey Theatre.
The New York Times says of the playwright "O'Rowe's plays are so packed with energy and verve that they can leave an audience dizzy".
