Don Reed and Laney College Theatre Dept Present EAST 14TH, Opens Tomorrow 2/19

By:

Hot from theatres in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco, Laney College Theatre Department is excited to present the award winning one-man play, "East 14th - True Tales of a Reluctant Player," for its debut in Oakland from Friday, February 19, 2010 through, Saturday, February 27th for four shows at the Laney College Theater. Actor, comedian and playwright Don Reed, an Oakland native, excitedly returns to the streets that inspired his coming of age story that became a 2008 NAACP Double Nominee for Best Actor and Best Playwright and East Bay Express' Top Ten Plays for 2009.

"East 14th - True Tales of a Reluctant Player"

In the spirit of John Leguizamo's "Freak," Sarah Jones' "Bridge and Tunnel" and Whoopi Goldberg's "Whoopi," this hilarious and moving solo show set in Oakland in the '70's chronicles the true story of a young man raised by his mother and ultra-strict step-father as a middle class, straight A, God-fearing church man. The young man, however, wanted to be just like his dear old dad. Too bad he didn't know dear old dad was a pimp. Very funny, definitely poignant - a ride down the old East 14th you won't soon forget.

East 14th - True Tales of a Reluctant Player is 105 minutes with an intermission - players under 17 are not admitted. Friday and Saturday evening show times are 8:30 pM. Laney College is located 900 Fallon Street in Oakland. General admission sliding scale tickets are $20 - $30 and $50 premium reserved seating (w/additional meet and greet). $10 student tickets are also available. To purchase advance tickets visit www.east14thoak.eventbrite.com.
