By: Gabrielle Sierra
Connie Champagne brings her remarkable portrayal of Judy Garland in "A Judy Garland Christmas" to The Rrazz Room, Hotel Nikko, 222 Mason, SF, on Tues, Dec 22 at 8 PM. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased at www.therrazzroom.com or directly through www.ticketweb.com or 866 468 3399.
What's Christmas without Judy? Connie Champagne gets the audience into the holiday spirit with Garland's holiday repertoire--lovely chestnuts from her films and her legendary 1963 Christmas TV special. Connie warms the heart with carols and classics--plus some quirky turns on songs that will surprise and delight.
As always, Ms. Champagne's show is much more than an impersonation. Rather, she brings Judy Garland to life, both in character and in voice. Her show has been called "a subtle masterpiece of parody and homage" by the New York Times.A California native and graduate of Mills College, and MFA graduate of The American Conservatory Theatre, Connie Champagne began her eclectic career with roles at San Francisco's Magic Theatre and Theatre on the Square. She played cult heroine Neely O'Hara in the long-running stage adaptation of Valley of the Dolls. Champagne is the winner of the SF Weekly Wammie Award for Outstanding Cabaret Performer for Connie Champagne and her Tiny Bubbles. She is also the winner of the Bay Area Critics Circle Award for Lead Actress In A Musical; Winner-LA's Ovation Award for Lead Actress In A Musical Visit; and Winner-Dean Goodman Award for Outstanding Cabaret show for "iMAGINE Judy Garland: An Evening With Connie Champagne."
