Broadway By the Bay's 45th season, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brooke Knight and Executive Director Jim Gardia, kicks-off with the hit Broadway musical comedy DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS (April 1 - 18, 2010). Next, Broadway By the Bay presents America's most beloved musical, ANNIE (July 15 - August 1, 2010), followed by the funny and delightfully touching classic, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES (September 16 - October 3). The 45th season closes with BROADWAY BY THE YEAR® (November 18 - 21), a musical and historical snapshot of the Great White Way highlighting songs from Broadway shows of 1930 (Girl Crazy, Strike Up the Band and The New Yorkers) and 1964 (Funny Girl, Hello Dolly and Fiddler on the Roof). Hosted by creator Scott Siegel and featuring several of today's top cabaret and Broadway performers, BROADWAY BY THE YEAR® is sure to take the audience on a trip down memory lane.

DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS

April 1-18, 2010 (Press Night Friday, April 2)

Based on the popular 1998 film of the same title, DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS is the story of two fraudsters, Lawrence Jameson and Freddy Benson, living on the French Riviera. Lawrence is a cultivated and suave gentleman who cons rich ladies out of their money. Freddy on the other hand is a small time American thief who cons women into giving him money by telling made up stories about his sick grandmother. One day they meet on the train and try to setup some work together, but soon find out that the small French town they live in isn't big enough to support two scammers. So they setup a challenge - they agree that the first person to successfully steal $50,000 from a young Christine Colgate will get to stay in town, while the loser must leave. The battle between them then starts...with many twists and laughs along the way. The show ran for over 625 performances on Broadway and was nominated for eleven 2005 Tony Awards.

Based upon the popular Tribune Media Service comic strip, Little Orphan Annie, ANNIE is the timeless tale of an orphan who goes from the squalor of an orphanage - run by the nasty Miss Hannigan - to the polished mansion of multibillionaire Oliver Warbucks in search of her birth parents. Boasting one of Broadway's most memorable scores, including "It's a Hard-Knock Life," "Easy Street," "N.Y.C." and the ever optimistic "Tomorrow," the original Broadway production of ANNIE won seven 1977 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Book and Score, ran for 2,377 performances, and is one of the top 20 longest running shows in Broadway history.

LA CAGE AUX FOLLES

September 16 - October 3, 2010 (Press Night Friday, September 17)

The winner of six 1984 Tony Awards, and easily one of Broadway's most influential musical, LA CAGE AUX FOLLES is the funny and touching story of acceptance. The show focuses on a gay couple: Georges, the manager of a Saint-Tropez nightclub featuring drag entertainment, and Albin, his romantic partner of 20 years, and the adventures that ensue when Georges' son, Jean-Michel - fathered during a one-night heterosexual fling - brings home his fiancée's ultra-conservative parents to meet them. Featuring such hit songs as "I Am What I Am," "Song on the Sand" and "The Best of Times," LA CAGE AUX FOLLES ran for 1,761 performances on Broadway.

BROADWAY BY THE YEAR: 1930 & 1964
November 18-21, 2010, (Press Night Friday, November 19)

This critically acclaimed series, created by Scott Siegel for the historic Town Hall theatre in New York City, takes audiences of all ages on a musical tour of the Great White Way, offering an entertaining verbal account of Broadway's history. The show features the songs from Broadway shows of a selected year, sung by a cast of talented cabaret and Broadway performers. Broadway By the Bay will feature the years of 1930 (Girl Crazy, Strike Up the Band and The New Yorkers) and 1964 (Funny Girl, Hello Dolly and Fiddler on the Roof).

Broadway By the Bay, the largest theatre company on the Peninsula, has won numerous awards, including over 40 Theatre Critics Circle Awards, and has garnered acclaim throughout the San Francisco Bay Area as a destination for professional-quality musical theatre. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Brooke Knight and Executive Director Jim Gardia, Broadway By the Bay produces three full-scale musicals and one intimate composer/lyricist series each season, presented to over 40,000 audience members at the 1,600 seat San Mateo Performing Arts Center.

Lauded for its efforts in education, The Youth Theatre Conservatory - for ages 4-17 - gives younger students solid foundations in acting, singing, and dancing for the musical theatre. For those 18 and over, the Musical Theatre Conservatory offers professional classes to adults of all ages. Students aspiring to achieve a professional level of performance skills are taught by instructors who have excelled in their specialties. Musical Theatre Conservatory's intensive summer program is offered in conjunction with Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.
