The American Conservatory Theater Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) Program presents Dario Fo's political comedy Archangels Don't Play Pinball, translated by Ron Jenkins, with assistance from Gloria Pastorino, and directed by A.C.T. Head of Movement and Physical Theater Stephen Buescher. During a night of mischief with his gang of friends, Lanky, the lovable fool and secret ringleader, finds himself married to a streetwalker named Blondie. The marriage is a fake, but Blondie is the real deal, and the spark she lights in Lanky sends him on a series of madcap, manic, and often hilarious misadventures: from a loopy pension office in Washington to a sadistic dog pound and the upper echelons of the political sphere. In this contemporary farce, Dario Fo exposes the lunacy and injustice of political bureaucracy with cutting humor, a revolutionary spirit, and a surprisingly big heart. Archangels Don't Play Pinball pops with lively music, slapstick physical comedy, and the dazzling ensemble work of the A.C.T. M.F.A. Program class of 2012. Archangels runs February 9-19, 2011, at Hastings Studio Theater (77 Geary Street, San Francisco). Tickets are $10 and are available at www.act-sf.org or by calling the A.C.T. Box Office at 415.749.2228. Press is welcome to attend the production, but reviews are not allowed for Archangels Don't Play Pinball.

Archangels Don't Play Pinball is made possible by generous grants from The James Irvine Foundation and The Bernard Osher Foundation. Additional support is provided by The William G. Gilmore Foundation and donors to A.C.T.'s season gala.

Ranked as one of the top programs in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, the A.C.T. Master of Fine Arts Program was the first theater training program in the country not affiliated with a college or university accredited to award the master of fine arts degree. The M.F.A. Program functions as the cornerstone of the A.C.T. Conservatory, which also includes the Summer Training Congress, Studio A.C.T., and the Young Conservatory. The third and final year of the program is designed to give students the opportunity to focus primarily on performing for a public audience. Past A.C.T. M.F.A. Program third-year productions have included works by Christopher Durang, Charles Busch, Marc Blitzstein, Georg Büchner, Caryl Churchill, George Farquhar, Henrik Ibsen, Robert O'Hara, Harold Pinter, William Shakespeare, George Bernard Shaw, Oscar Wilde, Maxim Gorky, and Bertolt Brecht.
