2007 Pulitzer Winner RABBIT HOLE at Contra Costa Civic Theatre, 4/6-29

By:

Becca & Howie had the perfect life — a great marriage, a beautiful house, and a lovely son. But after a tragic accident, the couple faces the challenges of surviving great loss and making a life with the family that remains. Rabbit Hole by David Lindsay-Abaire is a new play that shifts perfectly from hilarity to grief.

“I think this production will keep people on the verge of tears,” said Director Daren A.C. Carollo.  “Lindsay-Abaire undercuts those moments where you want to cry with something hilarious. He does that brilliantly, with this very light energy, then he just slowly drips in the coping.”

The Director hopes audience members will recognize aspects of themselves and other people close to them among the five characters in the play, making it an enriching and enlightening experience.

Rabbit Hole opened on Broadway in 2005 and was nominated for several Tony Awards.  It became a film in 2010 starring Nicole Kidman and Aaron Eckhart.

Cast includes four CCCT debuts: Emily Hippert (Becca), Steve Rhyne (Howie), Lissa Keigwin (Izzy), and Christopher Harral (Jason).  Laurie Strawn, Mrs. Meers in our 2006 hit Thoroughly Modern Millie, returns to CCCT to play the role of Nat.

Michael Palumbo, also making his CCCT debut, is designing Scenery and Lighting.  Don Tieck, whose compositions include A Midsummer Nights Dream, A Streetcar Named Desire, and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, is back to grace Rabbit Hole with an original score. He and actor Christopher Harral will perform the score live at each performance. Anida Weyl is the costume designer, and props are by CCCT Artistic Director, Derrick Silva.

Rabbit Hole plays Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, Sunday matinees April 15th, 22th, and 29th at 2pm, opening April 6th and closing April 29th. Tickets are $20, $11 for ages 16 and under and may be purchased online at www.ccct.org or by phone at 510-524-9132.  Contra Costa Civic Theatre is located at 951 Pomona Avenue (at Moeser) El Cerrito, with free parking in an adjoining lot.
