San Diego International Fringe Festival Presents PEACOCK AND THE NIGHTINGALE
By: Courtnie Mele
A cross cultural UK exchange project for San Diego International Fringe Festival #sdff14 of the world premiere of black comedy by British playwright, David Bottomley.
Hollywood 1953. Movie director, George Cukor summons the eccentric English poet, Dr. Edith Sitwell, to adapt her book about Anne Boleyn into a Columbia blockbuster to star Vivien Leigh.
Cukor films a publicity meeting between the ageing poet and rising young film star, Marilyn Monroe, who yearns for a break out role to counter the dumb blonde parts for which she is famously typecast. Sitwell struggles with Cukor and his collaborator, who continues to dumb down her script. Impressed with Monroe and her plight, she hatches a plan to make her the star of her screenplay instead. As three larger than life ego's battle for supremacy, how will the Studio choose between them?http://www.sdfringe.org/2014/shows.php?id=81481
