Photo Flash: First Look at Moonlight Stage's MY FAIR LADY, Opening Tonight
Artistic Director Steven Glaudini presents the third show inMoonlight Stage Production's 34th summer season, the beloved classic Broadway smash hit MY FAIR LADY. Performances are today, August 13 to 30. BroadwayWorld has a first look at the cast in action below!
Based on the play "Pygmalion" by George Bernard Shaw, MY FAIR LADY features a book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. It's the story of Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, in a bet that he can teach her to speak well enough to pass as a lady. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a giant hit, setting a record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. That was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version starring Audrey Hepburn and Rex Harrison, and numerous revivals.
This season's cavalcade of special guest stars continues! Moonlight patrons will be delighted to welcome back to the stage former artistic director KATHY BROMBACHER in the role of the indomitable Mrs. Higgins.
Starring in the lead role of Eliza Doolittle is HILARY MAIBERGER, who was last seen at Moonlight as Nellie Forbush in SOUTH PACIFIC last season. Hilary's theatre credits include the National Tour of Beauty and the Beast (Belle), Aladdin: The Musical Spectacular (Jasmine), Cinderella (Cinderella), Little Women (Jo March), The Marvelous Wonderettes (Cindy Lou); Evita (Mistress), and Anyone Can Whistle (June). Some of her favorite roles include State Fair (Margie), Do Black Patent Leather Shoes Really Reflect Up? (Becky), Titanic, the Musical (Kate), A Christmas Carol (Mrs. Cratchit), and Working (Millworker). Equally at home on the operatic stage, she has appeared in Don Quixote, The Coronation of Poppea, and I Quattro Rusteghi, among others.
As professor Henry Higgins, Moonlight welcomes HANK STRATTON, who has starred in the Broadway revival and television film adaption of The Man Who Came to Dinner, opposite Nathan Lane. For three seasons he appeared in the CBS drama The Unit, in addition to recurring roles on Heroes and American Dreams. His television work includes films for NBC, CBS, Hallmark, and HBO, along with numerous guest appearances including The Closer, Desperate Housewives, Hawaii Five-O, ER, and Frasier. He had the privilege of playing Berowne in Love's Labour's Lost for theRoyal Shakespeare Company's Complete Works Festival. Additionally, he starred in the national tour of the Tony Award-winning production of Michael Frayn's Copenhagen, the Sam Mendes/Rob Marshall collaboration of Cabaret, and the off-Broadway hit Jeffrey. He recently directed The Man Who Came to Dinner for the University of Arizona and The Laramie Prpoject for the University of Michigan, where he produced a concert benefiting the Matthew Shepard"Erase Hate" Foundation. Hank currently sits on the board of the Professional Arts Education Center, a nonprofit dedicated to providing scholarships in the performing arts. He is a graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
