Old Globe to Host 'Cat in the Hat' Series, 9/6

By:

Executive Producer Lou Spisto today announced that The Old Globe, in partnership with KPBS, will host a special screening of "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!," a new animated television series airing on the PBS KIDS programming block on KPBS-TV and designed to support science learning for preschoolers.  The free event will take place on Monday, September 6 in the Old Globe Theatre.  All children in attendance will receive complimentary goody bags and may have their photos taken with The Cat in the Hat himself.  The Grinch from the Globe's annual holiday production of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! will also make a special appearance.  Doors open at 3:00 p.m. with screenings at 4:00 and 5:00 p.m.  To RSVP, please call the Globe's box office at (619) 23-GLOBE or visit www.TheOldGlobe.org for more information.

"The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!" is based on the acclaimed The Cat in the Hat's Learning Library book series published by Random House, and is designed to appeal to preschoolers' natural curiosity and engage them in the process of scientific exploration and discovery.  Award-winning actor Martin Short is the Cat in this first-ever Dr. Seuss-inspired animated TV and Web series.  "The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That!" will air daily in San Diego on KPBS-TV at 8:30 a.m. starting Sept. 6.  For additional information, visit http://pressroom.pbs.org.

"We are thrilled to help introduce the next generation to another of Ted Geisel's immortal creations, The Cat in the Hat," said Spisto.  "Audrey Geisel's generous gift of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! has allowed the Globe to provide hundreds of thousands of children with their first live theater experience.  We are so grateful for her ongoing generosity and support of The Old Globe, the arts and children's education and literacy."
Approaching its 13th annual Old Globe appearance, Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! has become a vital part of the fabric of the San Diego community and an enduring San Diego holiday tradition.  This season's production of Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas! will run Nov. 20 - Dec. 26 in the Old Globe Theatre.  Tickets go on sale Sept 3 at 12:00 noon.
